Covington Partners to Distribute College Success Starter Kits

Transitioning from high school to college can be a grueling task, not only emotionally. but also financially. According to the National Retail Federation, in 2015 the average student spent $899.18 on technology and dorm supplies when attending college for the first time. These expenses are beyond the typical costs (tuition, room and board, books, etc.) high school seniors associate with their freshman year of college. Students are hit with many "firsts" when planning their post-secondary education, so we want to help.

Covington Partners and Holmes High School would like to soften the transition for as many college-bound seniors as possible by providing them with a College Success Starter Kit.

Each kit will feature over 50 must-have items—from towels and laundry detergent to notebooks and bed sheets—for students to be successful in the classroom and in the dorm room while away at college for the first time. A complete list of items is attached.

Through an application process, Holmes High School seniors will apply to receive this incredible College Success Starter Kit. The selection committee will take into consideration many criteria, including but not limited to students who qualify under the Federal Pell Grant (given to students who show a high need for financial aid on their FAFSA), students who currently qualify for free/reduced lunch, and students in Project Home (program assisting homeless youth achieve educational success and prepare them for the challenges of life). Currently, 85% of the Holmes High School student body qualify for free/reduced lunch, while 11% of the Holmes High School student body meet the requirements of Project Home.

Covington Partners and Holmes High School would like to invite you to help alleviate some of the financial stressors of our college-bound seniors. By donating $250, you can sponsor a complete College Success Starter Kit for one deserving Holmes High School senior. Wewould greatly appreciate any contribution which you can provide—nothing is too small. Checks can be made payable to Covington Partners and should be received no later than Wednesday, May 25, 2016.

By partnering with us to support Holmes High School seniors in their transition to college, you can play a crucial role in inspiring hope for a better tomorrow and providing thegroundwork for a successful post-secondary education.
