Mentees Inspired to Be Agents of Change

Holmes High School students participating in the Covington Partners work-based mentoring program in partnership with DBL Law were provided the rare treat of an extensive sit-down meeting with Justice Michelle M. Keller, Supreme Court of Kentucky.
While discussing her prestigious educational and career path, Justice Keller encouraged students to take advantage of every opportunity they are provided, rely on the guidance of mentors, and to stay deeply focused and committed to everything that they do. Her personal “north star” has always been a steadfast adherence to the United States Constitution in maintaining justice for all in the “most robust democracy in the world.”

Justice Keller made history when she was appointed as the first female judge to serve on the Supreme Court of Kentucky in 2013. In her discussion, Justice Keller provided much insight to students regarding her role as a female nurse, attorney and judge. Further, Justice Keller’s inspirational discussion sparked conversation about the importance of increasing diversity in the Kentucky legal pipeline to more accurately represent all Kentuckians and ignited students’ passion by relaying, “You can’t be an agent of change without having a seat at the table.”

Thank you to our DBL mentors and Justice Michelle M. Keller for facilitating a truly dynamic and inspirational work-based mentoring session!
